Day 3 - Geocaching in the hot sun

Day 3, a geocaching adventure. I have done it before but not for a long time. The last time was way back in 2019 when the world had only just switched to being in colour. I always enjoyed it! Out and about exploring, going on quests, solving puzzles and finding treasure. What's not to like?!

I decided on The Docklands just over the river. Why? 2 reasons why: 1) Because I like the area and it is somewhere other than Abbey Wood and 2) Because I can. So I set out on my bike on a warm day with a good breeze keeping it cool. It wouldn't stay that way and I would be in for an extra adventure.

Found the first one at a bridge overlooking London City Airport! What a great location! To jumbo jet roared over my head as I searched. Their gears down, so close, as they descended with a howl of engines. Unfortunately I didn't get a pic of that. The cache was super easy to find.

The way to the second cache had some beautiful scenery. But once I was there, unfortunately I couldn't find the cache. I think I know where it is but it would mean leaving my bike and heading into scratchy looking bushes and I was wearing shorts, My legs are not scratchy proof. Maybe I will come back and try for it again if I am on foot and wearing trousers!

By this time I was so hungry I could devour 10 horses ( as kebabs obviously ) so I did a bit of Googlin' and found a cafe near by with coffee and most importantly FOOD. Just a few mins ride! Huzzah!

Cafe was was little Hudson cafe. Very friendly, nice vibes, clean, and great food and coffee. I feel like I stumbled on a bit of a gem.

Coffee was great ( iced ) and the chicken and waffles was a 9.10 on my face richter scale. I've always  been curious about chicken and waffles. O wasn't sure I would l like the combo of maple syrup with savory chicken but it worked. The waffle was comforting soft and warm almost gooey but crispy on the outside. The chicken was tender yet crisp. The sweet notes from the maple were really welcome.

I left happy, full and caffeinated. I had planned on getting more caches but the last cache was just a few minuets away and close to the ferry to go home, Getting the two other caches would have meant going out of my way and looping back. So I decided on just going to get that last one and go back to my flat. It was a choice I would be glad I made later but first.

I got distracted by an asian supermarket.

Got some goodies and carried on with the adventure.

This is actually a cache I attempted and didn't find 14 years ago! I came back and found it! Some kind of record for time between caches?  Found it pretty easily. It is located at the Brick Lane Musical. The building looks very fairy tale and has a fascinating history.

By now the sun had entered full evil mode. 30.c and rising. Got to the ferry. Oh closed. Never mind I can take the foot tunnel next to it. Oh. The lift is broken. Oh. Shit. I remembered the Silvertown Tunnel had recently opened and operated a bike shutter service under the river. It was not that far away ( about 20 mins ) but would bring me out in Greenwich Peninsula. So a journey I thought would take me about 30 minutes took about and hour and 20 minutes. By this time I was super hot and tired. Although I did get to try out the tunnel which I would never have tried before.

Great day and I am glad I tried out geocaching again. I can't wait to do more. Why did I stop!
